Air Fryer Eggs can be prepared several different ways. The most popular is hard boiled eggs, but you can also make scrambled eggs, sunny side up eggs, and poached eggs! In this post, I’ll break down all the ways to cook eggs in the air fryer.

COOKING EGGS IN THE AIR FRYER

The air fryer is my best friend in the kitchen. I have a special shelf in my pantry with an outlet to keep it plugged in and ready for use. Air frying has transformed so many recipes, such as air fryer baked potatoes, cookies, air fryer chicken wings, air fried bacon, hamburgers, and more!

Did you know that you can air fry eggs?!

Eggs are such a versatile food! I enjoy them fried, boiled, scrambled, or baked. Plus, they have many important health benefits. Eating eggs is a delicious way to get almost every nutrient needed by the human body, including choline, which is good for the brain.

There are several different ways to cook eggs in the air fryer. I’ll egg-splain (😉) everything in this post.

HOW TO MAKE HARD BOILED EGGS IN THE AIR FRYER

I always make Instant Pot hard boiled eggs, but sometimes I just need a couple eggs and it’s a hassle to take out my pressure cooker. Since I almost always have my air fryer out and there’s really no waiting time, I’ve discovered I can “bake” hard “boiled” eggs in my air fryer!

I will share my tried, tested, and true cook time for air fryer hard boiled eggs. But as a disclaimer, many factors can affect the cook time:

  • Freshness of eggs
  • Altitude and location
  • Size of eggs
  • Temperature of air fryer
  • Time it takes to cool the eggs

It might require some eggs-perimenting (couldn’t resist one more egg pun!) to master air fryer hard boiled eggs. But once you do, you can make them just how you like every time! My advice is to start with the time I recommend and test/adjust it a few times to find your favorite cook time.

Don’t stress if you get some duds in some batches. It happens here and there, even to me!

MY INSTRUCTIONS FOR HARD BOILED EGGS IN THE AIR FRYER:

  • Preheat the air fryer to 250ºF. I have found that this temperature mimics a simmering pot of water.
  • Place how many eggs you want to cook into the basket. I try to leave some space around each egg for the air to properly circulate.
  • Air fry for 12-17 minutes, turning halfway through cooking. Since all air fryers cook at varying levels of power, I recommend starting at 15 minutes and then deciding if the eggs are over or under what you prefer. In my tests using two different brands of the same size air fryer, the difference in time was about 5 minutes.
  • Using tongs, plunge the eggs into an ice bath immediately until fully cooled, about 10 minutes.

It’s important to cool your eggs in an ice bath (a bowl of cold water with ice in it) as soon as possible after cooking. This stops the cooking process, as well as shocks the membrane between the egg and shell. The shock is vital to ensure the eggs peel easily.

Eggs carry a lot of residual heat, which is why you shouldn’t ever wait for eggs to “look” done when making them on the stove. Did you know that eggs (scrambled, sunny side up, etc.) keep cooking after they are removed from the pan?

THE PERFECT HARD BOILED EGG

In my opinion, the perfect hard boiled egg has a set, tender white and a creamy (not chalky) yolk. There is no gray ring around the yolk, which is indicative of overcooking. If your air fried hard boiled eggs have any grayness, reduce the cooking time by 1-3 minutes in your next batch.

HOW TO USE HARD BOILED EGGS

I love hard boiled eggs as a snack all on their own, with a sprinkle of sea salt. They also make a delicious green salad topping, egg salad sandwich, or potato salad ingredient. My favorite recipe is my bacon and whipped cream deviled eggs!!

SOFT BOILED EGGS IN THE AIR FRYER

To make soft boiled eggs in the air fryer, I follow the same hard boiled egg instructions and simply adjust the cook time. I recommend 10 minutes at 250ºF. Again, a little testing on your own air fryer is important.

HOW TO MAKE SCRAMBLED EGGS IN THE AIR FRYER

  • Add an ovenproof ramekin or small baking dish into the air fryer, then preheat to 400ºF.
  • Once hot, add a little butter or oil to the ramekin, and two cracked eggs.
  • Whisk the eggs to combine, then cook in the air fryer at 350ºF for 5 minutes, taking the basket out and stirring the eggs in the ramekin every minute until the desired consistency is reached. If your air fryer is extra powerful, you may need to reduce the temperature to 325º.

This method is perfect for a single serving of eggs for breakfast. Or how cute would it be to serve individual ramekins of scrambled eggs at a brunch?!

HOW TO MAKE SUNNY SIDE UP EGGS IN THE AIR FRYER

Sunny side up eggs are eggs with the white not quite cooked through and a runny yolk. Many people serve these eggs with toast or biscuits to soak up the runny yolk.

To make sunny side up eggs in the air fryer, you’ll preheat your air fryer with the ramekin or a small oven-proof cake pan inside of it to 400º.

Grease the pan, then crack two eggs into the pan. Cook for 4-7 minutes, depending on how firm and cooked you like your egg yolks. You may need to reduce the temperature of your air fryer if you see it is cooking too quickly.

HOW TO MAKE POACHED EGGS IN THE AIR FRYER

Poached eggs are cooked without the shell in simmering liquid, usually water. The perfect poached egg has a runny yolk and fully cooked whites.

  • Add an ovenproof ramekin or small baking dish with 2-3 tablespoons of water (in the dish) into the air fryer, then preheat to 400ºF.
  • Once hot, crack an egg into the ramekin.
  • Cook in the air fryer at 350ºF for 5 minutes.
  • Spoon the egg out of the dish and serve.

HOW TO MAKE AN EGG PATTY

Egg patties are a great way to make breakfast sandwiches. Don’t forget to pair them with air fryer sausage patties. Add the frozen sausage patties and cook for the same amount of time as the eggs (400º for 5 minutes)

  • Preheat your air fryer with the ramekin inside of it to 400º.
  • Grease the pan, then crack one egg into the pan.
  • Break the yolk with a fork or knife. Cook for 4-7 minutes, depending on how firm and cooked you like your egg yolks. You may need to reduce the temperature of your air fryer if you see it is cooking too quickly.

EGGS AND SAUSAGE IN THE AIR FRYER

I love making sausage patties in the air fryer! They are so juicy, crispy, and they taste a million times better than microwaving or cooking on the stove.

Sometimes, I’ll add a frozen sausage patty and a ramekin of eggs or a hard boiled egg for an easy but healthy breakfast with almost no prep work!

NOTES

Like microwaves, all air fryers cook slightly differently. In my tests, I have two identically-sized air fryers but the cooking time varied by up to 5 minutes for hard boiled eggs at the same temperature. Please use these times and methods as a starting point, and adjust according to your air fryer.
